Steam VPN: How to unblock regional-locked games on Steam with VPN?

A number of online games have regional locks, making the games available only to a selected region. There are situations where region-locking game becomes an issue. When you want to play the game blocked in your country, you will need a VPN service to get rid of the restriction.

  • Games that can only be purchased and play by users of a certain region.
  • Games that can only be purchased in a certain region but can be played even if players live outside that region.
  • Games have no regional locking.
Now let's guide how to unblock the region-locking game on Steam with VPN.

Active the key on Steam before playing the game with VPN

  1. Download a free VPN. Here recommend FlyVPN. Install and open the VPN setup file.
  2. Logging on the VPN Client. Go to their free trial page to get their free accounts if you don't have a paid VPN.
  3. You will see their servers listed by continents. Choose the server of the country that game available in.
  4. Connect to the server.
  5. After you IP has been changed, open Steam login and enter key.

    Download the game on Steam with a VPN

    1. First of all, make sure you are still connected to a VPN server.
    2. Begin the download of your game, at least download about 10 to 20 MB.
    3. Cancel the VPN connection. After this, Steam will automatically switch back to your own network and IP address, and the download will continue.
    While using this method, you won't be able to see the actual download speed in your game library as normal, but you can click '1 Item is Downloading' to see your download details.

    Play the game on Steam without VPN

    1. Exit Steam after the download finished.
    2. Start up your VPN tool again.
    3. Re-enter Steam, and click to play your game.
    4. Close the game and exit Steam.
    5. Close the VPN tool.
    6. Start Steam.
    7. Go to your Steam Library and right-click your game.
    8. Click 'Create a shortcut on your Desktop'. You can delete the desktop shortcut after all settings done.
    9. Navigate to your desktop, right-click the new shortcut, and note down the number displayed at the end of the link (eg. "202411")
    10. Navigate to your game folder (eg. "Steam/SteamApps/common/yourgamename")
    11. Create a text document (.txt) in the same folder where your game's .exe file is located, with the name "steam_appid".
    12. Paste the number you noted earlier inside the "steam_appid" text file and save it.
    13. Go into Steam and click "Add a non-Steam game to my library".
    14. Navigate and find your game .exe file, and add it.
    15. You can now play your game from your Steam library without the use of a VPN.
